Premelting

Pre-Melt Pots

Pre-Melt pots are primarily used to provide all the energy needed to melt the metal needed to replinish the main coating pot. This is very important on channel type coating pots in order to minimize the wear or clogging  of the “channel” during operation. A major advantage of using pre-melt pots is that much of the dross created during the melting of ingots is isolated away from the coating process. Moreover, as the ingots are not fed into the main pot, its temperature variations can be kept to a minimum, which leads to a better quality product.

Launders

Launders are used to transport molten metal at the proper temperature from a pre-melt pot to the main coating pot by gravity flow. The launder is specially designed to minimize oxidation of the alloy. The equipment consists of a refractory lined steel shell and insulated cover assembly. It is heated (Gas or Electric) by a system mounted in the covers. Temperature is controlled by a thermocouple controller. A launder metal level circuit is also tied into the main control system.
