Induction heating is perfectly adapted for rapid changes of the steel temperature during the thermal cycling in annealing furnaces. The induction heating equipment can also be used for  preheating  the strip at the furnace entry by effectively “boosting” the capacity.

To take the maximum advantage of these capabilities, the parameters of the power supply must be adapted to the specific characteristics and sizes of the strip to be heated. The transistor type high frequency inverters manufactured by INDUCTOTHERM have been designed for this purpose. The high power capacity of these units (up to 4000 kW per unit!) is an additional advantage for this application.

The design of the inductor and the selection of the overall induction heating system’s components are done according to the specific application. The following parameters are taken into consideration:

• Initial temperature
• Final temperature
• Expected productivity
• Type of atmosphere required.
