Pre-melting pots are primarily used to provide all the energy needed to melt the metal needed to replenish the main coating pot. This is very important with channel-type coating pots in order to minimize the wear or clogging of the “channel” during operation.

Pre-Melt Pots: Moreover, as the ingots are not fed into the main pot, its temperature variations can be kept to a minimum, which leads to a better-quality product and less dross accumulation in the coating pot. Premelts pots are frequently used when processing galvanneal and Galvalume® coatings. |

Launders: Launders are used to transport molten metal at the proper temperature from a pre-melt pot to the main coating pot by gravity flow. The launder is specially designed to minimize oxidation of the alloy. The equipment consists of a refractory-lined steel shell and insulated cover assembly. It is heated by a gas burner system mounted in the side of the launder. Temperature is controlled by a thermocouple controller. A launder metal level circuit is also tied into the main control system. |
